ROP responsible for 10 pct childhood blindness

Dhaka, Nov 9: Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) — an abnormal development of retinal blood vessels in premature infants — is responsible for around 10 percent of childhood blindness in Bangladesh.

The information was revealed in a session on the concluding day of the Federation of the Asia and Oceania Perinatal Societies’ 18th Congress held in Dhaka.

IAPB Vision 2020 workshop begins

Dhaka, Oct 21: A two-day workshop on Vision 2020 began in Dhaka on Monday, marking the World Sight Day.

Prof Deen Mohd. Noorul Huq, Director General of Health Services (DGHS), was present at the inaugural session as the chief guest and Dr. Abu Raihan, Co-chair for South East Asia Region of the International Agency for Prevention of Blindness (IAPB), as the special guest.

ROP-caused blindness incidence on the rise

Dhaka, Nov 10: Incidence of blindness caused by Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) — an abnormal development of retinal blood vessels in premature infants — is on the rise in Bangladesh.

This was the observation of the speakers at a seminar on ROP held at Ispahani Islamia Eye Institute and Hospital (IIEI&H) at Farmgat in Dhaka today (Monday). They said ROP is emerging as a major health concern in Bangladesh.
