Dhaka, Nov 9: Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) — an abnormal development of retinal blood vessels in premature infants — is responsible for around 10 percent of childhood blindness in Bangladesh.
The information was revealed in a session on the concluding day of the Federation of the Asia and Oceania Perinatal Societies’ 18th Congress held in Dhaka.

This was the observation of the speakers at a seminar on ROP held at Ispahani Islamia Eye Institute and Hospital (IIEI&H) at Farmgat in Dhaka today (Monday). They said ROP is emerging as a major health concern in Bangladesh.
