Sheikh Hasina
Honorable Prime Minister of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh
Speech of Honorable Prime Minister – collect from National Eye Care, Bangladesh.
I am glad to know that like previous years, on 26th October, World Sight Day has been observed.
In Bangladesh, almost 7,50,000 people are visually impaired. Blindness is not only a physical or social problem, it also impede the development of country. Preventing avoidable blindness in now a timely issue. From this perspective, I believe, this year’s theme is “No more avoidable blindness” very much appropriate.
This government is implementing various activities to develop the eye care facilities in this country. Different government and non government facilities are now providing free eye care services. Different government facilities including National Institute of Ophthalmology & Hospital’s eye care facility has been improved.
Government is highly committed to provide eye care services in the doorsteps of the underprivileged and ultra poor population. I am calling all the concerned people to come forward with generous heart. I am expecting that by observing World Sight Day, awareness regarding avoidable blindness will be raised and eye care services will be developed in this country.
I wish all the success of World Sight Day 2014.
